Remote Activated HRU Systems

Thanner Disposable Hydrostatic Release Units for Remote Activation are based on the standard disposable HRU range. The standard units are fitted with adaptors enabling remote activation by means of mechanical, electric and pressure means.

One unit alone can act as hydrostatic release and remote release unit, which simplifies the installation and increase safe operation.

The units have the same approvals as the standard units.

Electric Activation:

The HRU has a pyrotechnic activator, which by limited electric power activates the HRU for release. The power can be supplied either by batteries or the ships emergency supply system, or both as safety back up. The electrice installation is a standard ships installation like a fire alarm system. The activation can be done by means of a control box situated in the wheel house. Two wires are necessary for each HRU. No limits of distance from the control box to HRU's. Programmed priority of release sequence. Close proximity activation at life raft cradle.

Mechanical Activation:

The HRU has an adapter to which a mechanical connection can be fitted. The mechanical activation could be by means of a TELEFLEX or MORSE cable or by means of any kind of mechanical connections. This method can be used for limited distances only.

Pressure Activation:

The HRU has an adapter to which a pressure line can be connected. The pressure can be supplied from a gas cylinder or a pressure tank. More units can be activated simultaneously or one unit at a time if fead by individual pressure lines. No limit in distance from control panel to HRU.

HRU DK2004E

Operates independently of life raft buoyancy. One unit only can fulfil the function as a hydrostatic release unit and a remote activated unit, no service requirements. 4 years operational service life for the HRU. 8 years operational service life for the electric actuator. Control box for the complete system, see part. no. 85-111. Weight 290g.

Control box electric remote activation of DK2004E

The control box is made from steel, it has IP 55 protection and a top hinged self closing lid. All buttons and lights are visible through the front window. The Box/system is supplied with electric DC power from the ships emergency supply system. The box holds a power failure alarm, which can be connected to the ships main alarm panel and push buttons for activation of 2 or 10 raft sections on deck. The cabling must be similar to a fire alarm system, using marine approved cables. For each HRU, 2 wires are necessary. Electric activation of the HRU can also be made from the deck, requiring a control box, like a fire alarm box, at the site and 2 extra wires from this box to main control box.

Options: battery back up. Programmed blocking of releases to secure prioritised order of releases. Lockable lid.
